There are more than a dozen character designs on the menu at the time of writing, plus the plush-style Cake Buddies. Short on time? Jurassic Joy is the dinosaur (from $89.95 at 6 inch) and Strawberry Cats is the cat cake (from $86.95); the table has the rest. All of the designs in the table are Lightly Sweet, made from real dairy fresh cream, and descriptions come from each product page.

Prices are pre-order prices on the website and are shown as "from" because the final total depends on your choices. The cart shows the exact amount. Eggless is +$5 and has limits, covered below. Most of these designs let you choose a flavour on the product page, though Chocolate Bear Bliss and Whimsy Monsters do not list a flavour choice. Which character cake suits which child?

Start from what the child loves and the designs sort themselves out. A few pointers, none of them rules.

For animal lovers, the menu has a lion, a tiger, an elephant, a lamb, a piglet, chicks and a rabbit. Strawberry Cats is the one for anyone who prefers cats, with playful cat figures against blush pink and a golden birthday accent. Whimsy Monsters is the funny one, with silly monster faces.

How big a character cake do I need for a kids' party?

Count the guests and decide how thinly you will slice. A 6 inch serves 6 to 8 normal dessert slices, an 8 inch serves 12 to 14, and a 10 inch serves 18 to 22.

A coffee slice is less than half of a normal slice, which can suit a party where children also have other snacks. These numbers are a guide, so if you are unsure, order one size up. Leftovers keep well in the fridge overnight.

Construction Site is offered only in 6 and 8 inch. If you need to feed more than the 8 inch serves, choose a design with a 10 inch.

Can I get a character cake the same day?

Only some can. Cakes with Express in the name can be made same-day or next-day, and six designs in the table have an Express version: Jurassic Joy, Whimsy Monsters, Chocolate Bear Bliss, The Unicorn, A Dreamland and The Rabbit. Several of the plush-style Cake Buddies do too.

Order by 2:30 PM Monday to Saturday for delivery that evening, between 5:30 and 10:30 PM, or by 4:00 PM for same-day pickup in Markham. Sunday does not take same-day orders, only pre-orders. A same-day cake and a pre-order cake go in separate orders, because each order has one date. The Express collection on the website shows what is available today.

If the design you want has no Express version, pre-order it instead. Pre-orders run from the day after tomorrow up to 180 days ahead, and cost less than the Express version. Daily capacity is limited, and popular dates fill up.

Can a kids' character cake be eggless?

Yes, on most of these designs, for +$5. Every design in the table shows an eggless option at the time of writing. It covers the main cake and its cream only, so decorations and add-ons may still contain egg, and the kitchen works with egg every day, since it handles milk, eggs, wheat, soy, peanuts and tree nuts every day. Eggless cannot be combined with 0 Sugar Added or Keto, because the eggless recipe contains sugar and flour.

Several designs are listed with a handmade fondant figure, and Construction Site is listed with a non-edible toy. Take every decoration off before slicing, and keep small parts away from young children. If a child has an allergy, write it in the cart note and confirm by phone or email with your order number; the allergy information page has the details, and the ingredients page lists what goes into each cake.

How do I order a character cake and get it delivered?

Choose the design, size and flavour on the product page, then pick pickup or delivery and a date in the cart. Pickup is free at the kitchen in Markham. Core GTA delivery is $4.95 for orders from $30 to $85, free from $85, and $10.99 under $30, before tax; your cart shows the final fee. Evening delivery arrives between 5:30 and 10:30 PM, and afternoon delivery from 1:30 to 5:00 PM is available for next-day and later orders. The full list of areas and fees is on the delivery page.

A tall character cake travels best flat on the floor of the car or in the trunk, never on a seat or your lap. Refrigerate it in its box within an hour of getting it, serve it straight from the fridge, and keep it at room temperature for no more than 2 hours in total, or 1 hour when it is hot out. It is best eaten the same day, and leftovers can go back in the fridge overnight.
