How does a gender reveal cake work?
The outside of the cake stays neutral — pastels, a bunny, macarons in both colours. The answer is inside: when you configure the cake you choose Blue or Pink as the reveal colour, and we colour the inside to match. Nobody at the party knows until the first slice comes out.
How far ahead should I order a gender reveal cake in Toronto?
Order two or more days before your date and we colour both the cake layers and the cream. For next-day orders we can colour the cream only. Dates book in the cart calendar up to 180 days ahead, so once the party date is set, the cake can be done and off your list.
Which part of the cake is blue or pink?
With two or more days' notice, the cake layers and the cream inside are both coloured, so the slice shows it straight away. For next-day orders and Express (today or tomorrow) cakes, only the cream is coloured — the cake layers stay as they are. The decorations on the outside stay exactly as pictured either way.
Which cakes on this page have the reveal colour inside?
Any cake with 'Gender Reveal' in the name has the reveal colour step in its configurator — Mystery Bunny (also available as an Express version), Sweet Reveal and Angel's Secret. The other cakes on this page are soft, baby-shower-friendly designs with no colour inside.
Can the cake be a surprise for me too?
Yes — choose Surprise as the reveal colour and place your order. Then have whoever holds the result tell us the colour: they can call 888-356-9099 or email Contact@ThePlaceToronto.com with your order number, or drop off a sealed envelope at our Markham bakery. We need it at least two days before your cake date; after that, only the cream can be coloured.

A reveal party has exactly one moment that matters, and it lasts about four seconds. The cake's job is to make those four seconds unmistakable: a clean cut, a slice lifted out, and a colour nobody has to squint at. Timing decides how much of the cake shows the colour — with two or more days' notice we colour the cake layers as well as the cream, so the answer shows from across the room. The three reveal designs each set a different mood: Mystery Bunny is playful and works when the reveal doubles as the baby shower; Sweet Reveal brings pink and blue macarons so the guessing game starts before the knife comes out; Angel's Secret is the quiet, elegant one for a smaller table.
