A heart cake is either a cake in the shape of a heart or a cake decorated with hearts, and a vintage heart cake adds old-fashioned styling: piped borders, bows and soft pastel or contrasting colours. The Place, a fresh-cream cake kitchen in Markham, has both kinds on its ready-made menu for Toronto and GTA delivery.

The distinction matters when you order. If you want the silhouette, Retro Romance Heart is the one: the page describes it as heart-shaped and dressed in pink-and-white swirls. If you want the feeling of a heart cake without the shape, the other designs below carry hearts, bows or borders instead. Which heart cakes can I order in Toronto?

Eight designs on our menu fit a heart or vintage-romance brief. What each one looks like, from its product page:

Only Retro Romance Heart is heart-shaped. The rest carry heart or vintage details, but their pages do not describe them as heart-shaped.

How much does a heart cake cost in Toronto?

Heart and vintage-romance cakes on our menu start at $62.95 for a 6 inch and reach $169.95 for a 10 inch, depending on the design. Prices are the pre-order prices at the time of writing, shown as "from" because your cart gives the final amount.

For Retro Charm and Dreamy Pastel the prices shown are the 0 Sugar Added ones; the Keto version is a little higher, from $84.95 and $87.95 for a 6 inch.

Which size and flavour should I choose?

Choose the size by the number of people, and the flavour by what the two of you actually like. Serving counts below come from our product pages and are a guide only.

A 6 inch is generous for a dinner for two with leftovers, and leftovers keep well in the fridge overnight. For a party, step up to 8 or 10 inch. If you are between sizes, go bigger.

Retro Romance Heart and most of the other Lightly Sweet designs let you choose a cream flavour. Our product pages describe a few that suit a romantic table: Strawberry is fresh berry and bright, Rose Lychee is floral and juicy, Chocolate is rich dark cocoa, and Salted Caramel is buttery with sea salt. The full list at the time of writing is Vanilla, Salted Caramel, Tiramisu, Coconut Latte, Soya Milk, Mango Oolong, Rose Lychee, Black Sesame, Matcha, Milk Tea, Chocolate, Strawberry and Strawberry Brulee, though the range varies by cake.

Can I get a heart or vintage cake with 0 Sugar Added, Keto or eggless?

You can, though the choices are separate. The Retro Charm and Dreamy Pastel cakes come in 0 Sugar Added and Keto (flourless) versions, with the same real dairy fresh cream over Japanese chiffon and no cane sugar added. Neither is heart-shaped. The sweetening is listed in each cake's ingredients, and 0 Sugar Added is only about sugar: these cakes still contain milk, eggs and, outside the Keto version, wheat flour.

The other designs in the table are Lightly Sweet cakes, made with cane sugar and lighter than a supermarket cake, and they offer Make it eggless for $5. That applies to the cake and cream of the main cake only, so decorations may still contain egg. Eggless cannot be combined with 0 Sugar Added or Keto, and our kitchen handles eggs every day. If anyone you are feeding has an allergy, put it in the cart note and confirm by phone or email before you order.

How do I order a heart cake for an anniversary or a surprise?

Order from the day after tomorrow or later, because none of the heart designs above has an Express version for same-day. You can book up to 180 days ahead, which suits an anniversary, a proposal or a date you already know. We take a limited number of cakes each day, so popular dates fill up.

Pickup at our Markham kitchen is free. Delivery to the core GTA is $4.95 for orders of $30 to $85 and free from $85, with evening windows between 5:30 and 10:30 PM; that is a guide, and your cart shows the final fee. Delivery goes to the lobby by default, or to the door with Door-to-Door added in the cart. You receive a tracking link or a call before arrival and someone needs to receive the cake, so pick a window when the person will be home. Full areas and times are on the cake delivery page.
