What is a vintage heart cake?

A vintage heart cake is a heart-shaped cake with old-fashioned styling, usually piped borders, bows and soft pastel or contrasting colours. On our menu, Retro Romance Heart is the clearest example. It is heart-shaped and dressed in pink-and-white swirls, and you can choose from the cream flavours listed on its page.

Not every vintage look is heart-shaped. Dreamy Pastel has ornate borders in blue and blush that bring vintage romance to the table, and Retro Charm has bow details and pastel borders with a nostalgic feel. Both of those come in 0 Sugar Added and Keto versions, which makes them the vintage options if you want no added sugar.

Retro Romance Heart is also the highest-priced of the vintage options, at $94.95 for a 6 inch. If budget matters, Heartfelt Day, which carries flowers and pink hearts on blush tones, starts at $62.95 and gives a similar softness. What makes a cake look floral?

A floral cake carries flowers or petals as the main decoration, usually in soft colours. Four designs on our menu do this in different ways:

• Petal Buddy is a plush-style character cake crowned with hand-piped cream petals, with soft blush accents.
• Athena has floral details sweeping through a lavender ombre, a graceful look for milestone birthdays.
• Wishing Well places a smiling angel among pink-and-white flowers and pearl-like accents.
• Heartfelt Day sets flowers and pink hearts against blush tones, and its page frames it as a quiet way to say someone means the world to you.

Floral designs read well on a dessert table because the decoration is the focus and the colours are gentle. They also suit occasions that want softness: a baby shower, a mother's birthday, an anniversary dinner. If you want the flower look with extra energy, Petal Buddy brings it in a plush-style character shape.

What makes a cake look minimal?

A minimal cake uses clean lines, a restrained palette and few decorations, so the shape and the colour do the talking. Minimal does not mean smaller, plainer-tasting or cheaper; it describes the look only. Five designs here show the range:

• Timeless Essential Chocolate has clean lines and dark tones around a layered chocolate cake with fresh cream.
• Matcha White Chocolate puts green and ivory together with clean lines, and pairs matcha with Belgian white chocolate.
• Sesame Chantilly uses monochrome styling in earthy tones on a black sesame cake.
• Red Velvet Nouveau sharpens deep red with clean lines for a modern birthday.
• Black Essence is clean lines and charcoal tones, in 0 Sugar Added and Keto versions.

These designs suit offices, small dinners and anyone who dislikes a busy table. Which look should I choose?

Choose by the occasion and the table, not by what is popular this year. A short guide:

• A romantic evening, an anniversary or a Valentine-style gift: vintage heart.
• A shower, a mother's day or a pastel party: floral.
• An office, a quiet dinner or a host who prefers calm: minimal.
• A cake that must work for a mixed group: minimal or floral, because neither has a strong theme.

The looks overlap, which helps when two people disagree. Heartfelt Day is floral and heart-themed at once, Wishing Well is floral with an angel figure, and Matcha White Chocolate and Sesame Chantilly are minimal but carry a clear flavour. Still undecided? If you are between two looks, size is the tiebreaker. Serving counts on our product pages are 6 to 8 for a 6 inch, 12 to 14 for an 8 inch and 18 to 22 for a 10 inch, as normal dessert slices, and they are a guide only. If you are between sizes, go bigger. Leftovers keep in the fridge overnight.

Can I get these looks with 0 Sugar Added, Keto, eggless or same-day?

Some of them, depending on the design. Here is what each choice means and where it applies:

• 0 Sugar Added and Keto: Dreamy Pastel, Retro Charm and Black Essence. These use the same real dairy fresh cream over Japanese chiffon with no cane sugar added; Keto is flourless. They still contain milk and eggs, the 0 Sugar Added versions contain wheat flour, and our kitchen handles allergens every day, so read the allergy information before you order.
• Eggless: all the Lightly Sweet designs here offer Make it eggless for $5, applied to the cake and cream of the main cake only. Decorations may still contain egg. It cannot be combined with 0 Sugar Added or Keto.
• Same-day: only cakes with Express in the name. Athena, Matcha White Chocolate and Sesame Chantilly have an Express version for same-day; the others are pre-order. Same-day orders close at 2:30 PM, Monday to Saturday, with evening delivery from 5:30 to 10:30 PM. Sunday takes pre-orders only.

Cakes are handmade to match the design shown rather than copied exactly, and we take a limited number of cakes each day, so popular dates fill up.
