What is a keto cake?

At The Place, a keto cake is a cake made without flour and without cane sugar, using ingredients such as cream cheese, eggs and coconut oil, and finished with real dairy fresh cream. On our menu it appears as Keto · Flourless.

The word describes how the cake is made: no flour, no cane sugar, and cream cheese, eggs and coconut oil used in place of flour. The Keto version is one of the versions inside our 0 Sugar Added line, so it follows the same rule on sugar and goes a step further on flour.

What goes into a Keto · Flourless cake?

A Keto · Flourless cake is built from cream cheese, eggs and coconut oil rather than flour, sweetened without cane sugar, with real dairy fresh cream on the outside. The product page describes the version in a single line: no cane sugar, and no flour of any kind, wheat or almond.

The ingredients differ from cake to cake, because each design has its own filling and toppings. Each cake's ingredients are listed on its product page and on our ingredients page. We do not name the sweeteners in this article, because the full list is the place to read them.

How is a keto cake different from a 0 Sugar Added cake?

A keto cake is a 0 Sugar Added cake with the flour removed. Both leave out added cane sugar, and both are finished with the same real dairy fresh cream; the difference is the sponge.

Which keto cakes can I order?

You can order Keto · Flourless in 6, 8 and 10 inch, as 2.75-inch mini cakes, in 12 oz cake boxes and as a set of four minis. The table shows a few of them, with the Keto price from the smallest size and the pre-order price at the time of writing.

The Choco Vital cake is a chocolate design with restrained details in deep brown, and it comes in either 0 Sugar Added or Keto. What should I know before I order a keto cake?

Four things matter before you order: allergens, eggless, timing and portions.

• Allergens: the Keto version has no flour, but it is not made for allergy needs. Every cake contains dairy and egg, and our kitchen handles dairy, egg, wheat, soy, peanuts and tree nuts every day, so we cannot guarantee that any cake is free of any allergen. Tell us in the cart note and confirm by phone or email. See our allergy information.
• Eggless: the eggless option cannot be combined with Keto or 0 Sugar Added, because the eggless recipe is made with sugar and flour. The option is +$5 on many Lightly Sweet cakes and covers the main cake and cream only; our kitchen handles egg every day.
• Timing: pre-orders start the day after tomorrow and run up to 180 days ahead. Same-day and next-day orders are only possible for cakes with Express in the name; same-day orders close at 2:30 PM, Monday to Saturday, and Sunday does not take them.
• Portions: a 6-inch serves 6 to 8, an 8-inch serves 12 to 14 and a 10-inch serves 18 to 22 normal dessert slices. These are a guide, and when you are between two sizes the page says to go bigger, because leftovers keep well in the fridge overnight.

Delivery fees and time windows are a guide, and your cart shows the final fee. Core GTA areas are served every day, and pickup in Markham is free.

How do I store and serve a keto cake?

Treat it like any of our fresh cream cakes: refrigerate it in its box within an hour of arrival and do not freeze it. Freezing damages the texture, and the cake is best served straight from the fridge with no need to warm it first.

On the way home, put the box flat on the floor of the car or in the trunk, not on a seat or your lap. Keep the cake at room temperature for no more than two hours in total, or one hour on a hot day.
