Yes, you can send a surprise cake. Delivery across Toronto and the core GTA is $4.95 on orders from $30 to $85 and free over $85 (a guide; your cart shows the final fee). Book from the day after tomorrow, or choose an Express cake by 2:30 PM, Monday to Saturday, for tonight. The delivery rules come down to one thing: a person has to be there to receive it. Here is how to plan it so the surprise holds.

Can I send a surprise cake to someone in Toronto?

Yes. We deliver freshly prepared cakes from our Markham kitchen across Toronto and the core GTA every day, to homes and to workplaces. The one condition is that someone must be there to receive the cake in person during the delivery window. That rule is what shapes everything else about a surprise. Area details: Markham, Richmond Hill and Vaughan and North York and Scarborough.

Question Answer

Can you promise a specific time? No. Specific times within a window cannot be guaranteed
Who must be there? Someone to receive the cake in person
Will I get a heads-up? A tracking link or a phone call before delivery

Can I change the address later? Not once processing has begun

These are guides drawn from our delivery policy; your cart shows the dates, windows and fees for your address, and the cart is the final word.

Does the recipient need to be home?

Yes. Someone must be available to receive the cake in person during the delivery window, whether the address is a house, a condo or an office. At commercial addresses, such as offices, restaurants and hotels, we cannot leave a cake unattended at all.

The window is the part that needs planning. Evening delivery runs from 5:30 to 10:30 PM, which is a five-hour spread, and the exact arrival time cannot be guaranteed. A short delay is normal: traffic or weather can put a route a little behind, and up to 60 minutes counts within the normal range.

That is easy for a birthday dinner at home, where the recipient is likely to be in. It is harder for someone who works late. A few ways to cover it:

  • Ask a housemate, partner or neighbour to be the "receiver" and keep the secret.
  • Pick the afternoon window, 1:30 to 5:00 PM, if the recipient is reliably home then. It is available from next day on, free in most areas and +$9.95 or +$14.95 in some.
  • For an office surprise, check with a colleague first, because the cake needs a person to hand it to.

You will receive a tracking link by email, or a call before we arrive, so someone gets notice that the cake is close. That heads-up helps the person who has to receive it, and it also means a surprise should be planned around it.

Which email address and phone number get the link and the call is worth checking at checkout, because the contact details you give are the ones we have. Decide in advance who answers. If the buyer is the one who is meant to be tipped off, the buyer should be the one on the order. If the recipient is the one answering the door, make sure the surprise does not depend on them not checking their phone.

When the secret matters more than the cake, call us first on +1 (888) 356-9099. We would rather talk through a plan than have a delivery attempt that cannot be repeated.

Should I choose the lobby or Door-to-Door?

For a surprise at a condo, the choice depends on how well you can coordinate. Standard delivery is to the building entrance or lobby. Door-to-Door can be added in the cart as an optional paid service, and we bring the cake to the unit.

The lobby is simple, but the recipient may need to come downstairs to collect the cake, which can give the game away. Door-to-Door brings the cake to the unit instead, so nobody has to be called down to collect it. For contactless or concierge drop-off, a delivery photo serves as confirmation that the cake arrived.

Can I change the address, or add a message?

You can change nothing about the address, the cake or the recipient once processing has begun, and the order cannot be cancelled after that either. Look carefully at the postal code, the unit number and the date before you pay. If you are booking days ahead, use the time to check the building's entry rules too.

For messages, we do not describe any gift card or writing service in our policies, so do not rely on one. The order note in the cart is a nice-to-have, not a guarantee, and the cart says so itself. Anything that must happen, such as a special instruction for the driver or an allergy, needs to be confirmed by phone or email before you order, with your order number.

If you or the recipient have an allergy, say so in the cart note and then confirm. We share one kitchen that handles milk, eggs, wheat, soy, peanuts and tree nuts every day, and cannot guarantee that any cake is free of any allergen.

Which cakes suit a surprise?

Pick a design that reads as a gift when the box opens. Two that fit are Petal Buddy, with a crown of hand-piped cream petals and soft blush accents, and Love Bloom, which has a bold love-message motif and pink hearts. At the time of writing, Petal Buddy starts from $76.95 for a 6 inch, and Love Bloom from $62.95.

Both are pre-order cakes, so you book them from the day after tomorrow, up to 180 days ahead. The article on ordering ahead explains the window. Most Lightly Sweet cakes, including these two, offer a Make it eggless option for +$5. It covers the main cake and cream only, decorations may still contain egg, it cannot be combined with 0 Sugar Added or Keto, and our kitchen handles egg every day.

If the surprise itself is last-minute, the same-day guide lists the Express route: order by 2:30 PM, Monday to Saturday, for delivery that evening. Those cakes are a separate set, and the same delivery rules apply.

What if something goes wrong on the day?

Report damage to the driver on the spot and contact us within 2 hours of delivery. Approved claims receive store credit, and a refund to the original payment method is available only if the cake is handed back to the driver at the time of delivery. Returned cakes cannot be re-delivered.

Once the cake arrives, put it in the fridge within an hour, still in its box. It is best eaten the day it arrives. For the full set of rules and the delivery areas, the cake delivery page has everything in one place.

Questions, answered.

Does someone need to be home to receive a surprise cake?

Yes. Our delivery policy asks that someone be available to receive the cake in person during the delivery window. Offices and other commercial addresses require this too, because we cannot leave orders unattended there, and we do not deliver to P.O. boxes.

What happens if nobody answers the door?

We make only one delivery attempt. If the recipient is unavailable and the driver judges that a safe drop-off is not suitable, the cake returns to the store for pickup within 24 hours. There is no second delivery attempt, and returned cakes cannot be re-delivered.

Can I change the address after I order?

Not once processing has begun. We cannot change the delivery address, product content or recipient details, or cancel an order, after that point. Check the address, building entrance and date carefully before you pay, and phone us first if you are unsure of anything.

Can I send the cake to a condo?

Yes. Standard delivery goes to the building entrance or lobby. You can add Door-to-Door in the cart as an optional paid service, and we bring the cake up to the unit. Your cart shows the details for your address, and a delivery photo confirms contactless or lobby drop-offs.

Can I add a message or card to a surprise cake?

Add your note in the cart, then call +1 (888) 356-9099 or email Contact@ThePlaceToronto.com with your order number to confirm anything that must happen. The cart note is a nice-to-have, not a guarantee, and a gift card or writing service is not listed in our policies.
